Notice for Review Requests

I receive review requests weekly. However, my personal schedule is hectic and I no longer review actively. (I also manage another blog called The Toronto Cafe and Food Blog). I do read every request sent but I apologize in advance that I do not reply to them all.

If I do take on a request, I will forewarn that it may take some time before I can review it. I am now looking to review adult fiction and self-help books instead of young adult fiction because I have grown out of it. If you are to request a review for either adult fiction or self-help, I will more likely to give it a shot.

In the meantime, Stop, Drop, and Read! serves as an archive book review blog. When I have the time, I may post a review. Thank you for understanding.

A Little Friendly Advice by Siobhan Vivian

Title: A Little Friendly Advice
Author: Siobhan Vivian
Age Group: Teens
# of Pages: 248
My Rating: 4.5/5

Ruby is going to have a memorable sweet sixteenth birthday. Everything is perfect as she celebrates it with her friends and her mother. Until her father, who she has not seen for so many years, appears at her front door.

Her friends are giving her advice on how to handle the situation. Ruby is so confused with her feelings. Should she listen to her peers when they are thinking of her best interest? But what happens when Ruby realizes that her best friend, Beth, is hiding something from her?

Siobhan Vivian's debut is a beloved and detailed novel about friendship, love, and forgiveness.

What really stood out for me about this novel was the subtle descriptions about the things that were happening around the characters and their actions. Reading it, you would feel as if you were there with Ruby through her fun times and sad moments.

The characters were extremely real with their flaws and their own personal interests. I particularly liked Ruby's flirty friend, Maria. Even though she didn't have a lot of impact on Ruby, I thought that her presence was reassuring when things got tense. Another favourite character of mine was Charlie, the cute guy with a taste for art who Ruby really liked. He was just adorable, making buttons for everything. I really wished I knew someone like him.

A Little Friendly Advice is a heart-warming read that you can relate to for those who wants something that revolves around friendships and emotions. It is definitely recommended.

This sounds great, I enjoy a book where the characters are real, everyday people.

This sounds so CUTE! I'll have to get my sister to check it out...she has a 9th grade English class, and is always looking for good books on interpersonal relationships. Nice review!
